Angels Gate Park and Recreation Center
The Korean Friendship Bell
This incredible gift was received in 1976 from the Republic of Korea in an act of continued friendship between Korea and the United States. It was intended to honor the bicentennial of the USA and the veterans of the Korean War.
Built in a beautiful, Pagoda-like, stone pavilion, the bronzed bell is made of 17 tons of copper, tin, gold, nickel, phosphorus, and lead. It is often chosen as the venue for weddings because of its beauty. Angels Gate Park also has a recreation center, basketball courts, soccer fields, picnic areas, hiking, and breathtakingly gorgeous views of the sea. This is one of the most popular parks in the Los Angeles area.
Point Fermin Park
This beautiful park runs adjacent to the coast. There is a beach entrance. There is plenty to do in the play areas. Picnics are a family favorite in this fabulous park.
Point Fermin Lighthouse
On the grounds of this historical park sits the Point Fermin Lighthouse. Take a guided tour of the lighthouse. It is something worth seeing.
You simply cannot visit San Pedro without going sight seeing. Lookout Point has a fantastic view of the San Pedro Harbor, The Port of Los Angeles, and Catalina Island. There are coin-operated binoculars available so you can see all of the unique sites.
The Los Angeles Fire Department Museum
Visit the Fallen Firefighters Memorial. Experience the collection of vehicles and fire fighting equipment that go back through history. This is a fun and educational facility and there is no charge for admission.
The Los Angeles Maritime Museum
This museum gives you a modern and personal view of how the Los Angeles Harbor grew from a mudflat to the International Trade mecca it is today. This is the foundation of Los Angeles. Take a guided tour and enjoy special exhibits, spectacular works of art and a world you have never known. There is no charge for the educational tours throughout the year.
The San Pedro Downtown Trolley
Downtown San Pedro is the heart of the city. It is famous for being the hub of the business district, as well as the center of tourism. Travel the downtown area, enjoy a meal, have some drinks and enjoy the world-famous view on the San Pedro Downtown Trolley. There is no charge for residents or visitors. You cannot visit California without a ride on a trolley.
Whale watching is popular in San Pedro and other areas in Southern California. Depending on the time of year you could see any of the following:
- Gray Whales (sometimes with calves)
- Blue Whales
- Fin Whales
- Sea Lions
- 1st Thursday Art Walk
Art and culture have always been a big part of life in this area. There are art galleries and art studios all around the downtown area. You are welcome to attend an artist open reception or watch them work. There is live music on the streets and in the galleries. You will also find various bands in the many restaurants and shops. The First Thursday Artwalk Tour is different every month. There are always rotating exhibits and new artists and new artwork in town. This has been part of the San Pedro culture for many years. Cabrillo Art Center
Get creative with some unique ocean-themed arts and crafts. This is a fun and free event on the first Saturday of each month.
San Pedro has an old-time community atmosphere. While you are enjoying the unique architecture in the city and taking advantage of the many places to shop, stop in at the Farmers Market. The market is open every Friday. Get fresh fruits, vegetables, and homemade goods from hard working Americans. You will enjoy the taste of the freshest of foods brought to you by local farmers.
