    Memorial Day Weekend Getaways

    May 13, 2018

When you rent an apartment in California, in particular in the San Pedro/Los Angeles area, you’ll certainly want to get away from it all for a while and enjoy a fun filled weekend getaway from time to time. Memorial Day weekend is the perfect time to relax, unwind, and experience a fun filled and exciting weekend journey with family members and friends.

Obviously, there’s nothing wrong with living in San Pedro, CA. It’s a beautiful community in the Los Angeles area and it’s a great place to call home. But just like any place we tend to hang our hat, we need a change of scenery on occasion. We need to go out and explore and see new places. We need to get out of our regular environment and into an area that is new, different, and exciting.

Whether living in San Pedro or anywhere else in the world, we become accustomed to our surroundings very easily and often need a change of pace. That’s why a Memorial Day weekend getaway is just what the doctor ordered. If you’re looking for ideas, stick around to discover our top five favorite recommendations below.

    1. Los Olivos

Los Olivos is a wonderful place to go for a weekend getaway on Memorial Day weekend if you enjoy fine dining and the best wine tasting in the Santa Barbara wine country. Located in the Santa Ynes Valley, there are some wonderful restaurants to be found in this community. Two of our favorites are called Sides Hardware & Shoes and Bear and Star restaurant.

At Sides Hardware & Shoes, you can enjoy delectable dishes including the Brothers Bacon Steak, Fried Calamari, Fried Brussels Sprouts, Pork Belly Tacos, Salmon, Hammered Pig Salad, the Brothers Burger, the Bacon Burger, and the Mushroom Burger. Let’s not forget about their famous Pastrami on Rye Sandwich, Roasted Turkey Breast Sandwich, and the Steak Frites to name a few of their amazing dishes.

At The Bear and Star, you’ll appreciate the refined ranch cuisine and many of the wonderful dishes on their new tasting menu. Some of their delectable options include daily oysters, deviled Ranch eggs, Parker Ranch loaded chili, spring lamb duet, wagyu ribeye cowboy cut, the pan seared Seabass, chicken potpie, wagyu albondigas meatloaf, grilled wagyu Burger and other amazing choices.

    2. Santa Barbara

While visiting Santa Barbara, you’ll have an opportunity to experience what is known as the American Riviera. It’s a beautiful place to visit, where you can check out the lush gardens, the wine country, and beautiful festivals with music and dancing, and so much more.

Seafood lovers are going to be in heaven when they visit Santa Barbara as well, because there are truly some amazing seafood restaurants in this community. Some of the more popular options include the Endless Summer Bar Café, Chuck’s Waterfront Grill, Brophy Bros. Clam Bar & Restaurant, and if you’re in the mood for the tastiest crab cake burger you’ve ever had, we highly recommend visiting On the Alley.

If you’re visiting for the wine, there are dozens of wineries and tasting rooms all around the city. Some of the most popular options include DV8 Cellars, Solvang Taxi and Wine Tours, Summerland Winery, and more.

    3. San Diego

Have you ever wanted to take your family to the San Diego Zoo? This place is amazing, and it’s more than just a rumor. People come from far and wide to give their family and friends an opportunity to see the animals.

Or, you can stop by to visit the San Diego Model Railroad Museum. This is an excellent option if you happen to love railroads or you want to take your kids somewhere where they can learn something new.

If you want to get involved in local Memorial Day festivities, you can check out the San Diego Memorial Day Weekend Cruises, the Summer Movies in the Park, Mount Soledad’s Memorial Day Ceremony, the La Vista Memorial Park and Mortuary Memorial Day Celebration, or you can check out Legacy Week at the USS Midway Museum, which will honor our nation’s heroes all Memorial Day weekend long.

    4. San Luis Obispo

In San Luis Obispo on Memorial Day weekend, you can expect to find lots of interesting and exciting things to do. There’s the Arroyo Grande Strawberry Festival, the Avila Beach Blues Festival, the California Festival of Beers, Morro Bay Art in the Park, and the West Coast Kustoms Cruisin’ Nationals Car Show.

While you’re here, don’t forget to stop by Foremost Wine Co., Granada Arts Cyclery, and the Libertine Brewing Company if you’re looking for other exciting things to do that aren’t necessarily Memorial Day weekend related.

    5. Big Bear

If you decide to head to Big Bear this year for Memorial Day weekend, you’re definitely going to be in for a big treat. There are so many different things going on.

As an example, you can take advantage of the wonderful lake activities. They include pontoon boating, paddle boarding, power boating, sail boarding, windsurfing, wake boarding, jet skiing, waterskiing, sailing, and so much more.

Or if you’re into golfing, the Bear Mountain Gold Course will be open that weekend. This is one of the most unique golf experiences you’ll ever have, so we highly recommend checking it out if you’re into golfing.

If you prefer, you can check out the Western Mountain Steam Festival. They’ll be plenty of great food, lots of ale, great entertainment, and you can mix and mingle with pirates and cowboys. It’s an experience you’ll never truly forget.
